Public data tools

Every agent has ten free tools that read official public sources: SEC EDGAR, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the CFTC's Commitments of Traders, the World Bank, GLEIF's LEI records and the National Weather Service. They are included with the agent, not attached by you, and nothing about them is metered.

The tools

Tool Source What it answers
sec_filings SEC EDGAR A company’s filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and others) by ticker or CIK, newest first, with accession numbers, periods and links to the primary documents. The most recent filings only; the answer says when older ones exist.
sec_facts SEC EDGAR (XBRL) Reported financial figures by concept (Revenues, NetIncomeLoss, Assets and so on), with the period, the form, the accession and the filing date that reported each. A restated figure is its own row.
energy_datasets, energy_data EIA A reviewed list of four datasets (weekly petroleum stocks, weekly natural gas storage, electricity retail sales and prices, generation by fuel) and observations from one of them, newest period first.
cftc_positions CFTC Commitments of Traders Weekly futures-only positions by trader category, for one market or every market matching a phrase: the disaggregated report for physical commodities and the financial-futures report for rates, equities and currencies.
worldbank_indicators, worldbank_data World Bank A reviewed shortlist of development indicators, and annual observations of any World Development Indicators code for up to ten countries or aggregates, with the indicator’s own name and unit.
lei_records GLEIF One legal entity by LEI with its reported direct and ultimate parents, or a search by legal name.
weather_alerts, weather_forecast National Weather Service Active watches, warnings and advisories for a state, territory or marine area, and the point forecast for a latitude and longitude. United States coverage only.

How they reach an agent

The tools are served by datamcp, a separate Deployment built from the platform-api image, behind agentgateway at /mcp/data. It holds no account and no per-agent state: the gateway authenticates the agent by its own API key, attributes the call to it, and proves to datamcp that the request came through the gateway with a shared backend secret. The route allows exactly the ten tool names above; a tool the server might grow is hidden until it is named there.

Every tenant namespace carries a data RemoteMCPServer for discovery, and every agent binds its own copy of it, carrying the same per-agent credential its model calls use, exactly as the brokerage tools do. Deleting the agent removes the copy and the credential.

What every answer carries

  • Provenance. The source’s name, a link to it, its attribution line and, where the source publishes one, its licence (World Bank data is CC BY 4.0, GLEIF data is CC0).
  • retrieved_at. When the platform last fetched the body. A cached answer keeps its original time. It is not an as-of date: financial facts can be restated and series revised, so rows carry the filing or release dates the source gives.
  • null, never zero. A value the source did not publish is null, and the answer counts how many such values it holds.
  • Bounded lists. Every list is capped, reports how many rows matched, and gives the next offset or page when it was truncated.
  • untrusted. True when any field is text a third party wrote: a filer’s document description, a series title, a registrant’s names and addresses. The agent’s instructions never come from it.

Limits

  • Not a search engine. There is no full-text search of filings, no news, no page fetching.
  • The SEC allows ten requests a second per client across all machines. The platform shares one budget across every tenant, so a burst from one agent slows the others rather than getting the platform blocked; answers are cached for minutes to an hour depending on how often the source changes.
  • Every URL is built from a constant and a validated input, and no redirect is followed. The one link that comes from a source’s own answer, the NWS forecast resource for a point, is followed only on the NWS’s own host.
  • Positions in cftc_positions are as of the Tuesday report date and published on Fridays; the CFTC may revise a week after publishing it.
  • weather_forecast refuses a point outside NWS coverage rather than answering from another source.
